Charles Sahuguet painter
Art and Technique
When symbol is image, plastic arts are the privileged expression of a symbolic language.
"The painter thinks with his hands, the craftsman must be as good as the artist."
Preparing wood panels
The paintings are done on exotic wood panels - 4cm thick kotibé, a wood that is not very sensitive to variations in humidity - reinforced with "crocodile teeth", corrugated metal strips that are pressed into the upright wooden sides, to prevent splintering.
Grooves on the back prevent the panel from warping.
It starts with the preparation of wood panels on which symbols, images or icons will be painted.
It requires sawing, glueing, mounting on canvas, stuccoing, hot process first, then cold process, sandpapering, evening with water and sandpaper, to obtain a surface like marble, which represents days of work.
Regarding the painting itself, use of modern acrylic gouaches, French polish.
