The Garden of Eden
"Jehovah God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he put the man he had fashioned...
The Garden (39 x 35) 1978.
Iahweh God planted a Garden in Eden, in the East, he put there the man he had fashioned.
Iahweh God made grow from the ground all kinds of trees attractive to the sight and good for food and the Tree of Life in the middle of the Garden, and the Tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
A river flowed out of Eden to water the Garden and from there, it divided to form 4 branches...
The man gave names to all the cattle, to the birds of the sky and to all the wild beasts...
Iahweh God fashioned a woman that he brought to the man” (Gen. II, 8s)
The Garden is enclosed “she is a well enclosed garden, my sister, my fiancée; a well-enclosed garden, a sealed spring” (Canon IV,12).
It is surrounded by the primordial waters and the horses of Zechariah’s vision indicate the cardinal points: “the red horses advance toward the east country; the black ones advance toward the north country; the white ones advance toward the west country and the magpies advance toward the south country” (Zac. VI, 6)
(Text commentary by Charles Sahuguet).
“And Jehovah God made all manner of trees to grow out of the ground, trees that were pleasing to the sight and good for food, and the Tree of Life in the midst of the Garden, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil". Gen.II,8s
Tree of Life and the Tree of Death (46 x 45) 1979.
“ Yahweh God planted a Garden in Eden, in the East, and there he put the man he had formed.
Yahweh God made grow every kind of tree attractive to the sight and good for food and the Tree of Life in the middle of the Garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil...
And Yahweh God gave this commandment to the man: “You can freely eat from every tree of the Garden.
But from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die” (Gen I,8,9...16,17).
On the left, a cherub brandishes the lightning sword that drives Adam and Eve from the Garden.
On the right, the seraph announces the presence of Yahweh.
The goat symbolizes power vital and the serpent the power of knowledge, but illegitimately acquired.
(Text commentary by Charles Sahuguet).
Tree of Life with 12 fruits (50 x 28) 1977.
The Tree is at the center of the Garden of Eden (Gen. II,9) which is located in the middle of the primordial waters.
It bears 12 fruits because, says Revelation XXII,2 “there are Trees of Life which bear fruit 12 times, once each month; and their leaves can heal the pagans”.
(Text commentary by Charles Sahuguet).
